there's no doubt that in many religious philosophies, believers are advised not to fight with evil; not to resist.
jesus certainly advised his followers not to "resist evil.".
and that's why i'm torn.. i believe, as do most of you here, that the watchtower bible & tract society is evil; a manifest, clear, present, and palpable evil.
Hi Francois,
Yes we are to do out part to stand up against evil! We do this as individuals, churches, civic groups, neighborhood crime watch or serve in the military, political office, charities, missions, policemen, voting our conscience and by exposing cults that manipulate and enslave people to their own ends.
There is plenty of biblical support for this as well as secular. Go for it!

Hi Kent,
It looks like we have a lot of agreement here. I want to clarify my general view of others who are not Christians. I am NO better, my thoughts and sometimes my reactions are just flat out wrong, by my own standards. I said to someone, "Christians aren't better persons, they're just forgiven!"
But it goes deeper than that. A Christian who is truly saved needs to be progressing closer to the Christlike ideal. I would desire you to be saved because my Lord commands me to "Go therefore and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". I would not try to coerce you in any way.
The first three chapters of Romans, Paul deals with our inherent depravity and shows why none are better than others, Jew, Gentile, master or slave. He shows how Abraham was saved by grace through faith and not his own works. JWs have a skewed view of the Bible, they are totally works oriented and can never be sure of their eternal future. Actually, JWs are a mini-Catholic church in many ways!
I am seeing you now as a person and would hope that others see Christians as 'persons' and not 'opponents'. Not seeing the person leads to dehumanizing and makes it too easy to attack.
In my fellowship or church, we welcome those who others look down their noses at. We WANT SINNERS because we are all of the same nature. We want to show them what has helped us and then let them decide if it works for them.
Adulterers, fornicators, gays, lesbians, alcoholics, drug abusers, prostitutes, gossipers, gluttons, greedy, selfish, atheist, whatever label anyone has pinned on them doesn't matter. If we can bring them to Christ we are overjoyed, but if they do not accept Him that is no problem either.
I don't know any Southern Baptist that has ever been disfellowshipped and there is no need to DA. We don't keep track other than baptisms or membership rolls, nor do we keep track of how much money people choose to give and we encourage people to take from the collection plate if they need it!
We recently raised $2200 in a love offering for a lady who needed only $1600 for an eye operation to save her sight. I guess what I am trying to say is that all 'Fundys' are not the same.
Charity and compassion for our fellow human beings is something we see from individuals who are of may different beliefs and non-beliefs.
Let's have peace toward one another.

Hi Tina,
Thanks for the compliment about my post. I think that all of us can seek common ground and be more compassionate to one another. I apologize for any post that has shown you disrespect.

i want to know what truth" is if its out there some where surely god will guide me to find it, i don't want to die without honestly knowing for sure knowing i have found the so called "truth.
i have been stumbled by others and by my selfish ways.
in the words of the song "send me an angel," cause i sure need one.. maybe i am not of their sort as the bible says and as elders have labeled me, but i do want to live and exist somewhere, and see the light what ever and where ever it is.
Hi Shane,
There is truth, there is no one organization that ministers to God's people. Each one is able to gain salvation in Christ by asking for Him to guide your life, repenting of your sins and believing Christ rose and his death on the cross completely covered your sins. Use the ideas in Romans 10. 9-11 to guide a heartfelt prayer.

Our Lord has chosen to use us to spread the gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit. Let Him indwell and overflow from your life onto others who are in your sphere of influence.
NIV Romans 3:22-24
22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
So, all are sinners and fall short of God's glory, which means eternal separation from Him. But just what is this grace, justification and redemption?
NIV Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Death is usually pictured as hell or eternal separation from God. It is not just a physical death as some would have you believe. How is it that we recieve this gift of eternal life?
NIV Romans 10:9-10
9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Is this really all that it takes to gain eternal life?
NIV John 3:15-17
15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Do we really believe on Christ if we dismiss Him as some arch-angel who is less than God? Think about it. Did you know that the reason that believers were called 'Christians' is because they WORSHIP Christ as God?
Is Jesus really the only way to life?
NIV John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Anyone can gain salvation, all they have to do is ask Jesus with heartfelt prayer!
NIV Revelation 3:20
20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
Can we be saved by our own works, even in some future era as some speculate?
NIV Titus 3:5-7
5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth (being 'born again' -John 3.3, or as a 'new creation' )and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
NIV Ephesians 2:4-10
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead (eternally dead and separated from God!) in transgressions--it is by grace (undeserved kindness) you have been saved.
6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves (NOT from our own works!), it is the gift of God--
9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
10 For we are God's workmanship, (a new creation) created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance (predestined) for us to do.
Our good works are an evidence of our faith and our salvation, they do not gain us salvation as that is by grace! How rich and merciful is our God? Remember the thief on the cross?
41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong."
42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. "
43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
Here is another proof that the soul is immortal, our Lord clearly promised this man 'paradise' (Hebrew understanding of 'heaven' or the afterlife) on that very day that he died! This is not some future event and it is not resurrection (adding the spiritual body to our bodiless souls).

>Rex,
Since we are in period of peace here (and I hope it contiues), I would like to tell you which of yours was my favorite post. It was the one where you described in some detail, the charitable works you were doing. I liked to see the human side of what you are about.
Thanks for the input, Larc. I don't remember the replies to the post because it was so long ago. Working with others who are down on their luck or have caused themselves problems with substance abuse is trying yet rewarding. You should have seen our youth group. They were carrying bags of groceries up steep hills (South WV is right in real mountains) in 90 plus temperatures and high humidity.
We accomplished things that only a supernatural force could have done. I give all the credit to our Lord God Almighty. We were united by Him and the deeper into His Word we got, the more we wanted to get in the Word (read John 15 for my meaning here).
May God Bless You,
Rex
consider this little known 'theocratic' event:.
knorr and his cronies held on to a standard that bethelites.
must sign an application promising four full years.
>Why not do the same with all publishers? Why not say if someone
stops turning in time for one year, they are no longer subject to
judicial action at all? Why not just let unhappy Witnesses go?
After a year being gone, you could join any church or group you
want, as if you were no different from any worldly person.
The understanding would have to be absolute - that no judicial
committee would do anything - the elders I know wanted to
investigate and possibly df a guy who stopped going to meetings
ten years ago when it rumored he was getting divorced!
That is such an easy and common sense solution to their many problems. That cult control is what keeps these forums and sites alive. If JWs want to get rid of all of us malcontents, do this and also make the view on blood transusions truly one of conscience.
We would all go away very quickly.

Hi Kent,
I want to respond to your good ideas with some observations I have. Please understand I am writing this with a constructive intent.
>What is even MORE interesting is the fact that the most spiteful people seems to be “good Christians”, with the “love for their next man” as a priority! Can anyone spell hypocrites?
You toss that word (hypocrite) around but it applies to everyone, some worse than others, as we perceive them. Does our "love for the next man" mean we take abusive language, blasphemy of God, etc by laying down and not protesting? You forget, one must also be ready to defend the faith and Jesus did that in righteious anger at times.
>There is one thing we can all be sure of – the only ones having anything to gain from this quarrelling is the Watchtower and their goons.
I agree with this but.......why do you insist on offending people, Kent? You claim it is your right to do so under, "free speech", then you whine about being attacked and you have started the argument to begin with! Your Hitler/God tagline is offensive to me for example.
>They can – rightfully, I might add – laugh about how easy it is to trick “the apostates”. Since there is some rather important things going on at the moment – if anyone should have missed it – I personally finds it a shame to let the Watchtower-goons have their way that easy.
I agree with the intent of your post. If the unbelievers would lighten up on the generalized Bible and Christian bashing you'd have less arguments. I get tired of explaining to people that we each answer to our Lord by our own actions and human organizations are not "Christianity". Hey, there are believers and non-believers but this forum is an example of true apostasy gone wild at times.
>Maybe we should think twice before answering hateful postings, maybe we should think twice before we make the negative threads the most debated threads. Maybe we should deny the Watchtower the delight of making us look like idiots!
I wholeheartedly agree. Perhaps all of us can be mindful of the feelings of others. I know its difficult, the first reaction from 'dubs when you critisize the Society is "you hate us".
What happens to me is my threads get hijacked by jerks who want to flame me for being a Christian. Look at my posts and you will see who they are. Yes, I have come on too strong at times. I have really returned some of the flaming and probably too much.
Not perfect, never will be till I get to Glory.

>I'm sure Kevin and Melissa will forgive him," said May Long, a Jehovah's Witness from Monrovia. "He was very mentally ill."
Actually, there is no need to qualify forgiveness with 'mentally ill'. We are to forgive regardless of if the person is unrepentant. Now that doesn't mean they do not receive just punishment.
>Described as close friends, Bruggeman and Dicke spent much of their time ministering to friends and strangers.
